Before you compare quotations

Check what the rate includes.

A low square-foot rate can exclude important finishing and service items. Ask for a written specification before confirming the work.

  • Board and channel brand or grade
  • Framework spacing and suspension method
  • Jointing tape, putty and surface finish
  • Profile-light grooves, coves and curved work
  • Electrical cut-outs and fixture coordination
  • Scaffolding, transport, painting and GST

Possible additional charges

Design details affect the final price.

Profile cuttingFrom ₹20 per running foot, based on design and profile type.
Steps and curvesLayered, curved or floating details require additional framing and labour.
Lighting & electricalLED profiles, fixtures, drivers, wiring and electrical labour may be separate.
Painting & finishingPrimer, putty, sanding and final paint should be confirmed in the scope.
How to measure

Build the estimate room by room.

  1. Measure room length and width in feet.
  2. Multiply length × width to get ceiling area in sq. ft.
  3. Measure cove edges separately in running feet.
  4. Count looping points, fixtures, fans and gala cuts.
  5. Add paint, polish, profiles and other design finishes.
  6. Apply GST according to the approved quotation.

Cove construction may require additional internal gypsum surfaces, so final quantities should be checked from the approved section drawing.

Cost factors

Why two quotations can differ.

  • Material, board and channel grade
  • Drop height and available floor-to-ceiling height
  • Curves, steps, recesses and layered designs
  • Scaffolding required for high ceilings
  • Total project volume and site accessibility
  • Electrical detailing and selected fixtures
  • Local labour and transport charges

Published market guides indicate that city-to-city pricing can differ by around 10%, though actual variation may be higher for small or complex jobs.

Planning questions

Confirm these before design approval.

Is the room high enough?

A ceiling height of about 8 ft or more is commonly recommended. A basic false ceiling may require roughly a 4-inch drop, with more space needed for services or layered designs.

Where will fans and lights go?

Fix the fan, downlight, cove and furniture layout together so light is distributed evenly and fittings do not conflict.

Which material suits the room?

Gypsum and POP are common for dry interiors. PVC is more suitable where moisture resistance is important, such as balconies or bathrooms.

Is the ceiling decorative or functional?

A simple design can hide wiring and ducts. Statement ceilings need more detailing, labour, finishing and lighting coordination.
